I don't believe it but..
It's just too much for me to resist commenting on. I mean..this is Buffon. Those agents, and papers.. they are just too creative sometimes. Wenger signing Buffon, how realistic is that?
There are at least several strong reasons why Buffon will not sign for Arsenal
1. This rumour started because there was possiblity that Juve will be relegated to Serie B due to the referee fixing scandal, so they said. But Juve are just about too powerful and it's almost unthinkable for the Old Lady to be relegated. And if Juve remain in Serie A, there is no chance they would sell their no.1 goalie who is basically one of the best goalies in the world.
2. Even if Juve were to be relegated, and Buffon does want to leave, I believe he would prefer to stay in Serie A. Those Italian footballers still believe that their league is still the best and Milan will be most interested to sign Buffon to replace the inconsistent Dida.
3. This might be the weakest reason but I believe it is worth considering. Wenger is a manager who believe in investing big money on attackers but never defenders, or goalkeepers. He would never pay the money Man Utd paid for the service of Rio Ferdinand, and he would never pay more than 10 million for a 28 years old Buffon's service. That is unless he does have so much to spend that he can afford wasting that much on a goalie while he still has Jens Lehmann. Neither Buffon nor Lehmann would want to be the no. 2 and that would be another headache.
Having said that, I think Wenger did say that the reason why he never managed to replace Seaman was because top goalies are most of the times unavailable. Should Buffon become available, there is just a slight chance that Wenger would spend his transfer kitty on the Italian no. 1. And I imagine most of us would be over the moon should that happen. Don't expect too much though.
